Retaining walls in Melbourne's west

We cut the bank back, build the wall to line, and leave the ground above or below it flat and usable, across Melton and Melbourne's west in Victoria, Australia. One quote covers the excavation and the wall. We run the machine ourselves, so it isn't dry hire.

  • The cut and the wall from the one outfit.
  • Sleeper walls built plumb and to line.
  • Spoil spread on site or carted off.

What to look at before the wall gets backfilled

The part of a retaining wall that decides how long it stands is buried the day after it goes up. So look at it while the hole is still open, on our job or anybody's. There should be room dug out behind the wall, not just enough to stand the posts in.

Behind that, drainage. Something for water to run into and somewhere for it to go, rather than soil packed straight against the timber. Take a photo of the back of the wall before it gets filled. If there's ever an argument about the wall later, that photo is the argument.

What the job involves

Excavated and built to hold back a slope and give you a level yard.

  • Walls to hold a cut or level a sloping yard
  • Excavation along the wall line
  • Sleeper walls built plumb and to line
  • Backfilled and drained properly behind the wall
  • Spoil from the cut spread on site or carted off
  • Turf or paving straight after, if that's the plan

Questions

Sometimes, depending on the height and your council's rules. Your council is the one to ask, and it's worth asking them early, because the answer can change the wall we'd recommend. Tell us what they say and we'll build to it. Getting the permit itself is between you and them.

Tell us the fall and how long the wall is

A photo of the slope and a rough length is enough to start. We'll tell you what the cut and the wall involve.
