Who we are and where we work
Dirt Mechanics is an owner-operated excavation and earthworks business based in Kurunjang, just north of Melton in Victoria, Australia. We work out from there across Melbourne's west and the Macedon Ranges. There's one machine and one operator on every booking, which is what makes this operated work and not dry hire.
Melton, Caroline Springs, Diggers Rest, Sunbury, Bacchus Marsh and Ballan are all close by. Werribee and Point Cook are south-west of us. Gisborne, Riddells Creek and Woodend are north, through the Macedon Ranges.
We take on the digging and the work that finishes it off. Site cuts and site cleans, trenching, post holes, soil removal, concrete removal, driveways, retaining walls and turf.
I get great satisfaction out of personally seeing the before and after.
It all started when I borrowed a mate's machine and realised how fun it was. I then went onto getting my own machine.
The completion of the job, and the customer's reaction when they come out and see the end result, gives me great pride and satisfaction.
What turns up on the day
Here's what we can get into a yard, and what we can do once we're in there.
- Fits a 1200mm gap The Toro TX1000 fits through a standard side gate, so most back yards are reachable without dropping a fence.
- An 800mm option, hired in, when it's tighter That's the width of a doorway. Courtyards and rear yards a normal machine can't reach are still doable.
- Bigger gear hired in When a job wants an excavator we hire one and run that too, so you're not chasing a second contractor.
- The finishing work as well Retaining walls, driveways dug to level, instant turf and artificial turf. You don't need another trade to close the job out.

Dirt Mechanics is a service-area business, so there's no shopfront to visit. We come to you, or we work the job out off the photos you send. We trade under our own name and ABN, and the machine on this site is our machine.

What you won't find here is a price list. Every yard is a different size, a different access and a different amount of spoil, so we give you the number once we've seen it.
